2G Cable The cable provided with DSMLink is a custom, in-house design that we manufacture ourselves. It's very sturdy and solves many of the problems we encountered with various other OBDII-style cables. The connector is a molded plastic piece that fits tightly on the OBDII connector in the car. The cable internals use modern surface-mount technology to provide reliable operation in racing environments. This is a top-quality cable. You simply will not find a nicer unit on the market. 1G Cable Like the 2G cable, the cable we provide for the 1G platform is also an in-house design utilizing surface-mount technology for the internals. Again, this is as nice a cable as you're going to find anywhere. The newly designed cable does not require an external power source, making installation even easier. USB NOTE: If you're planning to use the 1G cable with a laptop that only provides a USB port, you'll need to use an appropriate USB to DB9 converter. The only one that we've found to work properly is the Keyspan unit (USA-19HS) shown here. Other Keyspan adapters may work as well, but for sure there are various Radio Shack, Belkin, IOGear, iConcepts, and anything based on the Prolific or Cypress chipsets that do NOT work. So it's going to be best to play it safe and try to locate a good quality Keyspan adapter if you have a need for this. DSMLink memory board The DSMLink memory board is also designed and built in-house. Currently offered only for the 1G platform, this will eventually be available for the entire DSMLink lineup. This board provides additional, persistent RAM space in a manner simply not possible with any other solution. Changes made by the user to DSMLink are saved permanently in the memory provided by this add-on board. The user no longer has to worry about suddenly loosing battery power at the track and potentially running the car with an undesireable set of chip defaults.
